Hexagon Music is a research prototype I developed as part of a Masters Thesis for my masters degree in Game Technology at BUas (which is not yet completed). The thesis asks how unlocking and sequential progression affects player motivation in the context of creative music-making games.
I spent quite a bit of time during this degree thinking, reading, and writing about philosophy and game design, motivational psychology, and research theory, but the actual novel research I did was creating a new music-making game experience and extensively interviewing players about their play experience. Yes, it’s a research game, but it’s a game first, and a research tool second, so enjoy playing it, with or without the context of the research!
